Jazz Appreciation

The Jazz Appreciation group meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month in the dining room at The Sun Inn between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.

The members of this group have an interest in Jazz music and share their appreciation through listening to a wide range of music both new and old. Each month there is a theme to the session, such as ‘Big Band Sounds’, ‘Female Jazz Singers’ and ‘Instruments in Jazz’.

New members are always welcome. We enjoy all aspects of Jazz (traditional, modern, etc.)  so if you have any favourite singers, male or female, on CD, please bring them along.

You do not need to be an expert to join this group, so why not come along and enjoy a sociable afternoon with us. For more information please contact the group co-ordinator.

The contact for the group is Anthony Green on 0115 9383135.

Next meeting: Tuesday 15th May 2pm to 4pm – Big Band Sounds. All welcome.

A selection of our past events:

Meeting 17th April – we listened to and discussed vocal groups from the 1950s to the 1970s and their influence on pop music today.

Meeting Tuesday 15th August  – an afternoon where we brought along our favourite music to share as our theme was ‘What this means to me’.

Meeting Tuesday 18th July. The theme was the work of Harold Arlen who wrote, among others, ‘That Old Black Magic’, ‘Get Happy’ and the score to ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

December 11th.  The group did not meet at the Sun Inn as usual in December, but members met up at The Lion, Basford, on Sunday, 11th December. A jazz group played that afternoon from 1.30 to 3.30 pm.

Meeting 18th October: ‘Anthony’s 57 Varieties’  – this was a really good session, so do come along and join us.
